A breezy romantic comedy about two young American women and their escapades in one of the world's most romantic cities.

Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) are spending a summer in Spain. Straitlaced Vicky has her whole life mapped out, while adventurous and free-spirited Cristina has no ties and no plan. In atmospheric Barcelona the girls meet a charismatic artist, Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), who invites them to stay with him and announces his intention of seducing them both. The scene is set for a week of gorgeous scenery and sizzling chemistry, but matters are complicated by the unexpected arrival of Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz), Juan Antonio's beautiful, unpredictable - and quite possibly insane -ex-wife. Predictably enough, chaotic hilarity soon ensues as the four become entangled. Directed by film legend Woody Allen, and with winning performances from its four leads, Vicky Cristina Barcelona has got to be the most amorous film of the year.

    Screenplay: Woody Allen
