A neglected little girl finds a dreamy alternative life through a secret door - but things aren't quite as rosy as they seem.
Eleven-year-old Coraline (Dakota Fanning) is an isolated only child who's ignored by her parents and driven to distraction by the bugs climbing her bathroom wall while dreaming of escaping her dreary existence. Her wish comes true when she discovers a secret door in her home that leads to an alternative (and much better) version of her life. In this parallel universe, her parents are loving and attentive, there are cupcakes by the truckload and her neighbours have transformed into eccentric circus performers. It's almost good to be true. But things take a malevolent turn when Coraline's Other Mother (Teri Hatcher) decides that she wants to keep her and traps her behind a mirror. Coraline must now use all her courage and wits to help her escape the other world and get back home.
