Doctor Sleep: director Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy talk Stephen King

Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep presented a unique challenge for writer-director Mike Flanagan. How would he honour both the spirit of Stephen King's 2013 novel, and also the tone of classic Stanley Kubrick predecessor The Shining?

Further complicating matters was the fact that King disliked Kubrick's take on his original novel of The Shining. This meant Flanagan had to walk a tightrope act and please many different masters – fortunately, King has expressed delight with the director's work, and critics have also been positive.

We caught up with both Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy to discuss the challenges of making the movie, including their loyalty to the story of the older Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor). Check it out below.
