Whisking us back to the 1990s, this is the origin story of reportedly the most powerful character in the MCU so far. Oscar-winning Room actor Brie Larson plays the eponymous Captain Marvel, a super-powered hero who began life on Earth as an air force pilot known as Carol Danvers. Steadily, she comes to realise her human origins and must protect Earth from the raging interstellar battle between the Kree and the Skrulls.
Intriguingly, the movie is the first blockbuster effort from indie movie veterans Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, who steered Ryan Gosling to an Oscar nomination in 2006 high school drama Half Nelson (directed by Fleck and co-written and produced by Boden).
While we anticipate the tone that Boden and Fleck are set to strike, check out the following behind-the-scenes footage in which they discuss the physicality of Larson's role. Meanwhile, Larson herself details her experiences flying in jets as preparation for the part, and why it's important to bring humour to the movie.
Co-starring a de-aged Samuel L. Jackson as a younger Nick Fury, as well as Ben Mendelsohn, Annette Bening, Gemma Chan, Jude Law, Clark Gregg, Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou, Captain Marvel reaches our screens on 8th March.
