75 years of Supes

screen-poster

The legendary Superman is 75 years old! Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman first appeared in Action Comics 1, published on April 18 1938. But Supe’s history is in fact a bit more complex than that!

First conceived as a villain with telepathic powers, the original incarnation of the character first appeared in short story ‘The Reign of the Superman,’ published in a 1933 fanzine. The character was later re-envisaged by Siegel and eventually transformed into the character we know and love!

With his famous red-cape, blue costume and ‘S’ shield, the Kryptonian superhero soared into the hearts of comic book readers to become an iconic character for the ages. Superman’s birthday comes just before Zack Snyder’s eagerly awaited comic-book reboot Man of Steel, due for release on 14 June.

The much-loved Christopher Reeve famously took to the skies in the 1978 classic Superman and its three sequels. Young British actor Henry Cavill dons the cape for Man of Steel, alongside Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon and Kevin Costner.
