It's been a long time coming but three months prior to the release of Disney's Aladdin remake, we've got our first look at Will Smith as the Genie.
The Men in Black megastar fills the void left by the great Robin Williams in this live-action reboot of the studio's 1992 animated masterpiece. And the new trailer reveals Smith's blue-bodied form, while also hinting at the character's signature attitude.
Directed by Sherlock Holmes filmmaker Guy Ritchie, Aladdin purports to put a fresh spin on one of Disney's most enduring classics. The original movie swept us into the fictional Arabian kingdom of Agrabah, and was populated with a host of memorable characters including the aforementioned Genie, titular street urchin Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and wicked sorcerer Jafar.
In the remake, Mena Massoud plays Aladdin, joining Power Rangers actor Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Murder on the Orient Express's Marwan Kenzari as Jafar.
Kenzari is seen briefly in the new trailer (along with Jafar's loyal parrot Iago) as he instructs Aladdin to enter the Cave of Wonders to retrieve the lamp. The soundtrack meanwhile teases segments of classic Alan Menken (who returns for the reboot) songs including 'Friend Like Me', set to get a Smith-led reworking.
It's all part of Disney's roster of live-action remakes: arriving on 29th March is Tim Burton's Dumbo, while on 19th July we're getting the brand new The Lion King from director Jon Favreau.
