As we approach the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we prepare to close the book on a monumental chapter in pop culture history.
The movie resolves the world-changing Skywalker saga, which first surged to light speed with the release of 1977's A New Hope. The film served as our introduction to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Leia (Carrie Fisher) and the rest of their motley crew, and the saga eventually expanded over the next 40 years to encompass two more trilogies.
Many things have happened in that time, not least franchise creator George Lucas signing over his Lucasfilm rights in 2012. Any number of actors and directors have come and gone, and it now falls to The Force Awakens' JJ Abrams to bring everything to an emotionally resonant conclusion.
Talking of emotion, try not to shed a few tears in this behind the scenes video. It contains some remarkably candid footage, including Hamill, Ford, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca and Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi bantering while at the helm of the Millennium Falcon. It's an intravenous shot of pure nostalgia that gets us primed for a monumental resolution this December.
