A Quiet Place: Part II is scarier than the first movie says John Krasinski

So, we're all in a strange limbo state at the moment, awaiting new release dates for movies that should have reached us by now.

One of those is the eagerly anticipated A Quiet Place: Part II, the sequel to 2018 horror blockbuster A Quiet Place. Directed by and starring John Krasinski, the movie's imaginative premise centres on a family besieged by monsters that hunt via sound, with Krasinski's real-life spouse Emily Blunt delivering a memorably anxious performance as imperilled wife/mother Evelyn.

The original movie was catapulted to enormous box office grosses of $340 million – even more impressive when one considers the relatively meagre budget of $17 million. Little wonder that a sequel was ordered by distributor Paramount, and Part II is set to deploy a split time structure.

We're witness to Evelyn, plus her children Marcus (Noah Jupe) and deaf Regan (Millicent Simmonds), leaving their homestead to try and find a new haven elsewhere. This leads them into contact with Cillian Murphy's conflicted, and potentially dangerous, survivor Emmett. Meanwhile, Krasinski also flashes back to day one of the monsters' arrival on our planet, with a seat-gripping long take unfolding inside the confines of Evelyn's car.

Sadly, the movie's initial March release date was suspended owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. But this has only served to make us even more excited for the movie, and Krasinski has himself been talking it up. In fact, we should prepare for even more of a terrifying onslaught than before.

"I think you’re gonna be really scared," Cinemablend quotes him as saying. "I mean the truth is, I think again organically you’re more scared because you care about these characters. In the first movie you were getting to know them. Now you know them, you don’t want anything to happen to them. The sound’s much more intense because you know the rules of sound. And so my point was to make the audience part of the movie."

Now, that does sound very intense. Stay tuned to the Cineworld blog for news about A Quiet Place: Part II's new release date, and let us know @Cineworld if it's on your watchlist.
