All the times Cineworld made the perfect spot for a romantic proposal

Valentine's Day is coming up and love is very much in the air. In fact, Cineworld has often acted as the perfect backdrop to the odd proposal of marriage. Don't believe us? We've rounded up six swoonsome examples of people who popped the question at their local cinema.

1. A Fast and Furious proposal

OK, so it's not so fast or furious. Australian Fabio Lovato went to town when proposing to his girlfriend, Laura at Cineworld Gloucester. His own short film was even previewed in advance of the month's biggest release, Furious 7. Well, Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto gets married in the context of the movie so the romantic angle fits (kinda).

2. A life in pictures

This guy knew exactly how to utilise the power of the big screen. In 2021, he took over an entire Cineworld screen with a proposal video, ultimately going down on one knee in front of his girlfriend. How romantic is that?

3. Popping the question via the big screen

Aspiring groom Claudio Crolla asked for his partner's hand in marriage during a screen of, appropriately enough, wedding-themed rom-com I Give It a Year. Top marks for mapping out an appropriate movie in advance.

4. A Leicestershire love story

Midlands lad Dougie Hird went the extra mile when proposing to his girlfriend Claire. He collaborated with local film producer Eliot Richards to project a winsome and sentimental video that played at Cineworld Hinckley. Watch the video below.

5. Big-screen surprise

Tobie O'Dell proposed to his girlfriend Ella at Cineworld Stevenage and he'd actually initiated conversations with the cinema months beforehand. As manager Donna Stewart explained: "He wanted to do something different, something that she would not expect."

6. Call of marriage duty

Cineworld Glasgow Parkhead regular Natalie Green had no idea what was in store for her when her partner Jordan proposed during an apparent Call of Duty game session. She said: “The whole thing was a surprise! We had been out for dinner and then onto the cinema. As soon as the song started playing and the first photo came up, my heart was racing."

7. If music be the food of love...

Hospital lab manager Alan Shaw enlisted the help of the 40-strong women's choir A Handbag of Harmonies to propose marriage to his girlfriend Annette at Cineworld Chester.

8. It must be a sign...

Cineworld Weymouth was put to memorable use when youth worker Tom projected a romantic home movie onto the big screen, to the delight and surprise of his eventual betrothed Tina. She recalled: "We got to the cinema and I was sitting there with a tub of ice cream, watching the trailers, when I saw Tom on the screen, standing in our lounge, wearing a dinner jacket and holding a card saying 'Hi Tina!'"
