Tender new drama Broker opens viewers' eyes to a little-seen and fascinating side of South Korean life. Revered Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters) presents the story of a group of people who sell abandoned babies on the black market, which ultimately leads to recrimination when a regretful mother returns seeking the child she left behind.
Kore-eda's typically perceptive yet gentle camerawork illuminates humanity's capacity for self-preservation and compassion in equal measure. He also marshalls the skills of an outstanding cast, led by Parasite scene-stealer Song Kang-ho, to present a morally complex story in which good and bad decisions kaleidoscopically spiral around each other.
The movie recently screened in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members and we've rounded up several of their responses. Here's what they had to say about it.
It was a really good film, in my opinion the concept is a little extreme for a 12A rated film but that's on the BBFC and not on the cast and crew. The story is well written, the actors were phenomenal, very heartwarming journey. Overall Score: 8/10! Grade: B+! 😁😁😁

Went in with zero expectations. Was truly blown away. One of the best films I've seen in a long while.

Not sure why it isn't up for awards, or was it released too late for this year's nominations?
Such a wonderful film, dark in parts with moments that plucked on the heartstrings. Well worth seeing again when it is released on the 24th of February.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. A heavy subject but dealt with in a wonderful, strangely uplifting way - that scene in the hotel room near the end, my word. Fantastic cast, stunning direction. Thanks, @cineworld ❤️

Just come back from the cinema, outstanding film. Beautifully acted, moving, bittersweet emotionally, cinematography was spot on and captured the mood perfectly. I was even welling up on the way home.
