DC FanDome: rounding up the 2021 highlights from Aquaman to The Batman

DC FanDome unleashed a plethora of exciting previews over the weekend. We've rounded up the highlights, all of which are destined to feature in your movie calendar in 2022.

Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom

James Wan returns to helm the Aquaman sequel, which again unleashes Jason Momoa as the world's hunkiest fishman. Wan is currently shooting the DC sequel that reunites Momoa with the previous film's actors Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta) and Patrick Wilson (Orm). You'd best savour the following behind the scenes sizzle reel as the movie isn't due out until December 2022.

Black Adam

"I've never seen the likes of it before," says an awed Pierce Brosnan about Dwayne Johnson's DC Universe debut. The latter plays the titular, fearsome Black Adam, described as the "Man in Black" who is poised to change all the rules. Brosnan co-stars as Doctor Fate and the movie is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra who collaborated with Johnson for this summer's Disney adventure Jungle Cruise.

The Batman

Boy, are we excited for this one. Director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson are set to reinvent the Batman legend with this boiling, toiling origin story that takes Bruce Wayne back to his detective roots.

Read our The Batman trailer breakdown.

The Flash

Ezra Miller takes centre stage as the lightning-fast Barry Allen in the big-screen Flash movie. IT director Andy Muschietti is at the helm, but the real selling point is, of course, the return of the legendary Michael Keaton in the role of Batman. It's a part he last played in 1992's Batman Returns, so check out the following teaser trailer to glimpse this historic moment.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

2018's Shazam! movie was a genuine delight, an infectious hybrid of Superman and Big. Zachary Levi returns as the titular superhero, although as we know, he's really a superhero alter-ego for teenager Billy Batson (Asher Angel). As marshalled by returning director David F. Sandberg, the story pits Shazam/Billy against three super-powered foes: gods Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu).
