One cannot have an Indiana Jones movie without a great villain. From suave archaeologist Belloq (Paul Freeman) to the superbly terrifying Mola Ram (an unforgettable Amrish Puri), the daredevil Dr. Jones (Harrison Ford) has grappled with his fair share of miscreants.
The fifth movie in the Indiana Jones series has secured itself an actor who is well-versed in these kinds of characters. Step forward Casino Royale's and Chaos Walking's Mads Mikkelsen, now officially cast as the new Indiana Jones villain.
It was recently confirmed that Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be starring opposite Ford in the film. It's the first to be directed by someone other than Steven Spielberg: this time, Logan helmer James Mangold will be taking charge.
The original Indy trilogy comprised the classics Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Temple of Doom (1984) and The Last Crusade (1989). In 2008, the long-overdue The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull arrived, although it dropped the ball somewhat in an unconvincing blizzard of CGI effects.
Fingers crossed that Mangold and Spielberg (who is overseeing as a producer) can get things back on track. John Williams is reported to be writing the score, having been with the franchise since the very beginning, so we know that we'll be getting some awesome tuneage.
Returning to Mikkelsen, he's soon to don the cape of the evil wizard Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 (replacing Johnny Depp). Here's hoping he reserves some evil cackling for his role in the new Indiana Jones movie.
