Spencer: new poster for Princess Diana drama starring Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart is generating serious awards buzz for her turn as Princess Diana in Spencer (something that's bound to annoy Daily Mail readers). The atmospheric drama comes from Jackie filmmaker Pablo Larraín, recounting Diana's turbulent Christmas spent at Sandringham Palace as her marriage to Prince Charles collapses in the midst of a media frenzy.

Stewart has been acclaimed for her portrayal of the ill-fated Diana Spencer, critics saying that she aces Diana's sense of discombobulation and alienation. The movie played at the 2021 Venice Film Festival and Variety's Owen Gleiberman was one of many impressed by Stewart's performance.

"Kristen Stewart doesn’t just do an impersonation (though on the level of impersonation she’s superb)," says Gleiberman. "She transforms; she changes her aspect, her rhythm, her karma. Watching her play Diana, we see an echo, perhaps, of Stewart’s own ambivalent relationship to stardom — the way that she’ll stand on an awards podium, chewing her lip, reveling in the attention even as she’s slightly uncomfortable with it (and even as she makes that distrust of the limelight a key element of her stardom)."

Here's a brand new poster showcasing both Stewart's physical transformation and a sampling of the laudatory responses to the movie.
