Cineworld Blippar Oscars poll – what are the results?

Wondering who’s going to win at the Oscars this Sunday? The people have spoken! Albeit not the people who can actually affect the results, but you, our readers, have voted on what actors, films and directors should be taking home the big prizes by Blipping the survey in the February issue of Cineworld Magazine. So, without further ado…

BEST PICTURE

When it comes to the top accolade, you favoured the dramatic and suspenseful space story Gravity, which grabbed 40% of the vote, closely followed by 12 Years a Slave (35%), American Hustle (17%), and Dallas Buyers Club (8%).

BEST ACTOR

Leonardo DiCaprio delivered your favourite performance, with a massive 52% majority voting for his performance in The Wolf of Wall Street. Despite giving a fantastic performance in American Hustle, Christian Bale came in far behind with 18%, but didn’t fare much better than apparent frontrunners Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) or Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), both of whom got 15% of the vote.

BEST ACTRESS

Following on from its success in the Best Picture category, Gravity’s leading lady Sandra Bullock also got the most votes for Best Actress – a whopping 37%! Oscar consensus elsewhere is that Cate Blanchett is a shoo-in for her affecting performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, but she got just 14% of the vote. Amy Adams (American Hustle) got 25% and Judi Dench (Philomena) was close behind with 24%.

BEST DIRECTOR

Cineworld audiences clearly appreciated the raw storytelling of 12 Years a Slave. The film's director Steve McQueen was the hot favourite in this category with 44% of the vote. Martin Scorsese wasn’t too far behind for The Wolf of Wall Street (32%) while Alfonso Cuarón took 14% for Gravity (at odds with the Best Picture results). Meanwhile David O’Russell got just 11% for American Hustle.
