Cineworld Unlimited screenings: Operation Mincemeat and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

We have two exciting Cineworld Unlimited screenings coming up this month, both featuring all-star casts and intriguing storylines. Put simply, if you're a Nicolas Cage nut or World War II enthusiast, you'll be well fixed this April.

First up: the fact-based drama Operation Mincemeat, which screens on 5th April.

Colin Firth leads the cast of this remarkable true story, set at the height of the war in 1943, in which the Allied forces placed false papers on an anonymous dead body, intended to wash up on the coast of Fascist-occupied Spain as part of an elaborate ruse to fool the Axis powers. The papers on the body indicated that the Allies were planning to invade Sardinia and Greece, allowing for a feint that accommodated a covert Allied invasion of occupied Sicily.

The movie is based on Ben McIntyre's bestselling book and stars Oscar winner Firth in the role of British naval officer Ewen Montagu, the mastermind behind the plan.

Directed by Shakespeare in Love's John Madden, the excellent supporting cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Johnny Flynn (who portrays intelligence officer and eventual James Bond author Ian Fleming), Jason Isaacs, Penelope Wilton and Matthew McFadyen. An all-star cast and a true story of bravery and unity in difficult times – who could ask for a more stirring experience?

And now for something completely different: Nicolas Cage plays himself in a movie that blurs the lines between man and myth.

The famously eccentric actor stars in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which promises to do for Cage what Being John Malkovich did for John Malkovich. Cage plays a fictionalised version of himself who must rescue his wife and daughter from a drug lord and Cage super-fan. This compels the actor to adopt all of the various crazed guises witnessed throughout the course of his career, allowing Cage to run the full gamut of emotions, temperatures and facial expressions.

The movie has been critically acclaimed for its self-reflexive texture and surprisingly emotional tone as Cage comes to terms with the weight of his hugely successful career, and also the fallibilities of his own life.
