Eva Green movie Proxima screens this July

While Cineworld is gearing up to re-open on 31st July, we've also got some exciting news to share with you.

We're delighted to announce that Eva Green drama Proxima will be screening across England, distributed by Picturehouse Entertainment. Here's what you need to know.

What is the story of Proxima?

The movie is the story of French astronaut Sarah, who enlists in the year-long Proxima space mission. Keen to establish herself in an environment largely populated by men, Sarah must also grapple with the pressure on her family life. As the relentless training takes its toll, Sarah must reconcile this with the strained relationship with her young daughter Stella.

Who stars in Proxima?

Casino Royale's Eva Green stars as Sarah, and is backed by a supporting cast that includes Matt Dillon (Crash) and Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann).

Who directs Proxima?

The film is the latest project from director Anna Winocour, who was responsible for tense 2015 thriller Disorder, starring Diane Kruger and Matthias Schoenaerts. The movie opened this year's Glasgow Film Festival, following successful runs at the likes of Toronto and San Sebastian.

How has Proxima been received?

The movie has been praised as an atmospheric drama that mixes the sweep and ambition of Sarah's journey with the intimacy of her home life. Little White Lies journalist Katie Goh raves: "Green is at a career-best as the stoic Sarah, simultaneously determined and on the edge of breaking. So often hamming it up in Tim Burton roles, you forget just how exceptionally subtle she can be."

Where and when can we watch Proxima?

Proxima is released this July. Clare Binns, Joint Managing Director of Picturehouse Entertainment, says: "After an extremely challenging few months for everyone, we’re thrilled to be bringing back independent cinema to the big screen with a beautiful and truly cinematic new film by a director I greatly admire, Alice Winocour. A safe environment is the priority for cinemas right now and we have every confidence that all cinemas will have everything in place to follow government guidelines and ensure that the cinema-going experience is as safe and enjoyable as it can possibly be. We’re excited to welcome audiences to fall in love with this wonderful film."
