It's time to fasten your seatbelts as Fast X injects a dose of nitro into your summer movie-going season. The blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise shows no signs of running out of gas as Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto faces his deadliest enemy so far.
With the new trailer now ready to view, here are five ways in which the saga is careening in bold new directions.
1. Deckard and Han are now allies
It can be challenging keeping up with the chronology of the Fast-chise. Suffice it to say, Jason Statham's one-time villain Deckard was responsible for seemingly killing Sung Kang's Han, only the latter was revealed to have survived in 2021's Fast 9.
The two now form an antagonistic bond alongside the remainder of Dom's crew including Tej (Ludacris), Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel).
2. Dom's son is involved in the action
Now grown up, Dom's sprog Brian (Leo Abelo Perry) is seen shotgunning it alongside Dom's brother Jakob (John Cena). The latter was a villain in 2021's Fast 9, but has now switched sides to help his sibling fight the villainous Dante (Jason Momoa).
Let's not forget, this series is all about (time to drop your voice several notches) FAMILY. That also includes Helen Mirren as Deckard's mother Queenie.
3. The movie imports a Marvel alumnus
Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, kicks it as Tess, recently revealed as the daughter of Kurt Russell's absentee character Mr. Nobody who allies with Dom and his crew.
4. It gets personal between Lettie and Cipher
Charlize Theron's calculating villain Cipher has been with the series since 2017's Fate of the Furious, but she was mostly been stuck behind computer screens or glowering, Hannibal Lecter-style, from a glass cell in Fast 9.
She now goes head to head with Michelle Rodriguez' Letty, presumably to balance out the boys' own testosterone that dominates elsewhere.
5. Jason Momoa's villain wipes out more than just cars
So, it turns out that Momoa's character Dante is part of a wider series ret-con. He was cheated out of the booty stolen by Dom and his team during the Brazilian bank heist job in 2011's Fast Five.
Now, he's gunning for Dom and his crew, to the extent that he's willing to wipe out all of Rome with a bouncing bomb. Good luck clearing that from your conscience, Dom.
6. It brings everything full circle back to street racing
We haven't had a street racing element in the Fast-chise since 2009's Fast & Furious (the first of the movies to ditch the 'the's' from the title). Now, we come back to where it all started with a V8 engine-off between Dom and Dante.
