Grease to get a prequel movie from Hearts Beat Loud director Brett Haley

We've got chills that are multiplying, because news has come in that Grease is getting the prequel treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 1978 musical classic Grease will be getting an origin story from Hearts Beat Loud director Brett Haley.

The film is called 'Summer Loving' and will recap the anecdotal love story from the original film's infectious 'Summer Nights'. You'll remember the scene where John Travolta's 'greaser' Danny Zuko recounted a night of passion with Sandra 'Sandy' Dee Olsson (Olivia Newton-John). Only her take on events was somewhat more romantic and wistful. Either way, the song has an air of melancholy to it, because after their union Sandy returned to Australia.

Remain sceptical? It might be just as well to check out Hearts Beat Loud, a tender and charming indie drama that, not unlike Grease, uses music as a binding and redemptive element between its characters. Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons excel as the father-daughter duo who start a band together after their song goes viral.

Giving voice to Danny and Sandy's summer fling is actor/writer Leah McKendrick, perhaps best known for her role as Sharon in hit comedy Bad Moms. But while McKendrick is on board as a screenwriter, there are no details as to who will step into the formidable shoes of Travolta and Newton-John. Whoever they are, they've got their work cut out.
