Pain and Glory Cineworld Unlimited screening on 12th August

This August, we welcome the return of Pedro Almodovar to Cineworld with his new movie Pain and Glory. The film screens in advance during our Cineworld Unlimited screening on 12th August, and you can now book your tickets.

Almodovar is widely regarded as Spain's finest living film director and one of international cinema's most colourful and thought-provoking figures. Pain and Glory is a typically flamboyant, luscious-looking melodrama a la classics such as All About My Mother and Bad Education, but underscored with the melancholy of the director's most recent film Julieta.

Almodovar regular Antonio Banderas (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!; The Skin I Live In) delivers a moving performance as Salvador Mallo, an ageing film-maker who looks back on his life. Almodovar channels his own biographical details through the fictional Mallo's life, as we see how he dealt with his emerging sexuality and first developed his passion for cinema.

The movie screened in competition for the Palme D'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival, where the movie won two awards for Best Actor (Banderas) and Best Soundtrack (Alberto Iglesias).

Critics have lauded Almodovar's latest as one of his finest: the London Evening Standard's Dave Sexton raves, "Pain and Glory is Almodóvar's best work for years, marvellously framed and composed, comparatively restrained for him, hugely enjoyable moment by moment."
