Last night, we were delighted to screen Pedro Almodóvar's sumptuous and emotional new drama Parallel Mothers. Spain's pre-eminent filmmaker, responsible for the acclaimed likes of Talk to Her and Volver, returns with a story of contrasting motherhood, with the magnetic Penelope Cruz turning in an award-winning performance.
Following its rapturous response at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, Parallel Mothers went on to be lauded by the international critical fraternity. Rotten Tomatoes graces it with a 97% aggregate rating, saying: "A brilliant forum for Penélope Cruz's talent, Parallel Mothers reaffirms the familiar pleasures of Almodóvar's filmmaking while proving he's still capable of growth."
However, we're here to talk about the reactions from our very own Unlimited screening. We've rounded up a few responses, which laud Almodóvar's typically bold vision and Cruz's intuitive performance.
Gorgeous film absolutely loved it. Really powerful story and I don’t think Penelope Cruz has ever been better on screen. She really is Almodovar’s muse

I found it to be a deeply moving drama that explores the theme of motherhood in a compelling story with Penélope Cruz impressing with her performance. #ParallelMothers pic.twitter.com/PxrjAk3fRU

Brilliant film. I’ve been a huge fan of Almodóvar since I saw Live Flesh and All About My Mother in the late 90s and this film continues that fine tradition, with Cruz being especially on top form. Highly recommended. 😃

absolutely amazing - Almodóvar's usual colour, humour and sensuality, all grappling with some unbelievably heavy subjects. Cruz is amazing as always, but a star-making performance from Milena Smit.
