TÁR: Cate Blanchett electrifies as a time-warping conductor in new trailer

One simply does not gloss over the latest Cate Blanchett movie. The Oscar-winning star of The Aviator and Blue Jasmine is set to captivate all over again in the forthcoming TÁR.

The movie casts Blanchett as world-renowned conductor Lydia Tár, a figure with the formidable power of the symphony orchestra at her fingertips.

With a mere dip or raise of her baton, Lydia can halt or instigate the passage of time at her will, as she explains in the eerie and impressionistic new trailer. It imbues an almost godlike sense of power, although the atmospheric teaser suggests plenty of heartache in Lydia's life as she rises to the top of the classical music scene.

The movie signals the return of acclaimed director Todd Field who makes his first movie since 2006's Oscar-nominated Little Children. Given Blanchett's pedigree, the subject matter and Field's penchant for art-house drama (he also helmed 2001's lauded In the Bedroom), TÁR could well become an Oscar frontrunner.

Check out the trailer and try not to get chills. TÁR screens at the 2022 Venice Film Festival before being released at Cineworld cinemas on 20th January 2023.
