The Whale is your next Unlimited screening this January

Have you been keeping up with the Unlimited screenings as part of Reward Season? The good news is the exciting advance screenings are rolling into the end of January and beyond, starting with the must-see emotional knock-out that is The Whale.

Brendan Fraser makes his unmissable comeback in Darren Aronofsky's hard-hitting yet deeply human drama. Having dominated the 1990s in the likes of The Mummy, the resurgent Fraser is now given a chance to tap his latent dramatic skills in his role as Charlie. A reclusive and obese English teacher, Charlie has been binge-eating ever since the tragic death of his lover. Realising that he doesn't have long left, Charlie reaches out to his estranged, enraged teenage daughter Ellie (Stranger Things' Sadie Sink) for one final shot at reconciliation and redemption.

Aronofsky scales back his usual visual pyrotechnics, instead fashioning a lower-key drama in line with his acclaimed movie The Wrestler, which similarly brought Mickey Rourke in from the cold. Aronofsky works with Samuel D. Hunter to adapt the latter's stage play and enlists an excellent cast including the freshly Oscar-nominated Hong Chau as Charlie's caustic yet truthful carer and Samantha Morton as his embittered ex-wife.

It's an ensemble powerhouse and you can get a flavour of it in the trailer.

The Whale screens in advance at Cineworld on January 26th.
