Will Smith is clearly in reboot mode at the moment. Not content with reworking The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as a drama, he's also got his sights on a 1980s movie classic. Specifically, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, which Smith is looking to remake with Kevin Hart.
Deadline reports that Brooklyn 99's Aeysha Carr will be writing the script for the pair. Variously the stars of Men in Black and Jumanji, the two have never worked together before. And given the premise of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, we can surely hope for an enjoyably bickering double-act.
The original 1987 movie was written and directed by John Hughes, and considered one of the filmmaker's crowning comic achievements. Steve Martin and John Candy were riotously funny as the mismatched pair thrown together on an escalatingly chaotic Thanksgiving journey across America.
There are currently no details about production start dates or release dates, so watch this space. Next up for Smith: Venus and Serena Williams biopic King Richard (he plays the father of the pioneering tennis duo). Hart, meanwhile, will star in drama Fatherhood for director Paul Weitz; the film co-stars Clemency's Afre Woodard.
