Veteran actor Jeffrey Wright (Casino Royale; The Batman) is on top form in the sharp-witted comedy American Fiction. Based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett, the film follows frustrated novelist-professor Thelonious 'Monk' Ellison (Wright) who writes an outlandishly stereotypical 'black' book as satire, only for the book to be published to high sales and praise.
The movie is the feature film debut of director Cord Jefferson and showcases a strong supporting cast including Sterling K. Brown (Waves). American Fiction has already opened to critical acclaim in America and has now received five Oscar nominations including Best Picture.

A cynically funny look at the way mainstream culture latches on to stereotypes and plays into them. It’s an almost meta film that keeps the laughs coming at just the right moments. Might not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.

Was so pleased the secret film was American Fiction! Loved it. Scathing, funny and surprisingly moving. Laughed and found myself shedding a tear or two. And raises a lot of interesting questions about race, identity, literature and exploiting a flawed system.
