Dune movie posters tease an out-of-this-world cast

Movie casts don't get better than the one showcased in Dune. The upcoming Frank Herbert adaptation has assembled a constellation of A-listers, all of whom promise to do justice to a landmark science-fiction novel.

The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve, helmer of Sicario and Blade Runner 2049. As per the novel, the action orients around the desert planet of Arrakis where the Royal family of Atreides has arrived to take up stewardship. However, when the family is betrayed by the vengeful Harkonnens, it falls to heir incumbent Paul to flee into the sand-blasted wastes with his seer mother Jessica to instigate a counter-attack. To do this Paul must seek the help of the Fremen, the indigenous population who understand how to locate water and also control the monstrous sand-worms that lurk beneath the surface.

Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) plays Paul and Rebecca Ferguson (The Greatest Showman) plays Jessica, just two of the big names showcased on the following posters. Also present and correct: Josh Brolin (Deadpool 2) as Paul's mentor Gurney Halleck, Javier Bardem (Skyfall) as Fremen leader Stilgar, Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia!) as the villainous Baron Harkonnen, Oscar Isaac (Star Wars) as Paul's father, Duke Leto Atreides, Zendaya (Spider-Man) as Fremen woman Chani, Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Harkonnen's personal muscle Glossu Raban and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as warrior Duncan Idaho.

The scope of Herbert's original source material, which derives from a serious look at ecology and natural evolution, provides the backdrop to a sweeping epic that will screen in both widescreen and IMAX. Villeneuve clearly has the chops in this genre and it's surely poised to do a better job than David Lynch's misfiring 1984 adaptation.

Dune is released in Cineworld cinemas on October 22nd.
