First trailer and poster for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Kingdoms will fall and heroes will rise in the roar-some first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. This is the latest chapter in the ongoing Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures 'MonsterVerse' franchise that has so far encompassed Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs Kong (2021).

Revered movie monsters Godzilla and King Kong were featured in their separate movies before being brought together to do battle in the aforementioned Godzilla vs Kong. The old rivals, known in this series as 'titans', must now become allies to take down a brand new threat – here's the first poster teasing what's at stake.

Actors Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kayle Hottle return from the previous movie as characters Dr. Ilene Andrews, Bernie Hayes and Jia. They're joined by series newcomer Dan Stevens and the plot takes us back to Kong's home of Skull Island where a terrifying shift in the power dynamic is at work.

In the words of the official synopsis: "This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."

Godzilla vs Kong director Adam Wingard is back behind the camera and the action looks as thunderously retina-scorching as one would expect. Godzilla x Kong: The Empire is released on April 12th, 2024.
