Jennifer Hudson is Aretha Franklin in Respect trailer

Having won an Oscar for Dreamgirls and starred in whatever Cats was, Jennifer Hudson is now aiming for more awards glory. She's portraying soul legend Aretha Franklin in new biopic Respect, directed by Liesl Tommy.

The movie is set to chart Franklin's rise from child singer to world-conquering superstar. Just last year we were treated to the fascinating concert film Amazing Grace, which resurrected footage of the singer's famous 1972 live album recording. We can't wait to see how Hudson puts her stamp on the iconic musician, whose remarkable voice helped pave the way for a multitude of other artists.

The starry supporting cast includes Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Marc Maron, Tate Donovan and Tituss Burgess. The movie is scheduled for UK release next January, and discover what the letters r e s p e c t really mean.
