The Persian Version (screening March 4th)
Iranian-American Leila (Layla Mohammadi) strives to find balance and embrace her opposing cultures, while boldly challenging the labels society is so quick to project upon her. When her family reunites in New York City for her father’s heart transplant, Leila navigates her relationships at arm’s length to keep her “real” life separate from her family life.
However, when her secret is unceremoniously revealed, so are the distinct parallels between her life and that of her mother Shireen (Niousha Noor).

Monster (screening 11th March)
Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters) returns with another acutely perceptive drama that puts contemporary social idioms under the microscope.
When young boy Minato (Soya Kurokawa) starts to behave strangely, his mother Saori (Sakura Ando) feels that there is something wrong. Suspecting that Minato's teacher Mr Hori (Eita Nagayama) is responsible, she storms into the school demanding to know what's happening. But as the story unfolds through the eyes of the mother, teacher and child, the truth gradually emerges.
Kore-eda's new film, the last to be scored by the revered composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, has been praised as one of his best to date. Critic Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com raves: "Monster is another striking piece of work from a master, a movie that’s so carefully calibrated that you get lost in these characters, forgetting they're performers and not people caught up in a genuinely traumatic chapter of life."
