New Avengers: Endgame trailer whisks us through 11 years of the MCU

Not just a gargantuan movie in its own right, Avengers: Endgame also carries 11 years worth of franchise history upon its shoulders.

The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie closes the book on phase three of the franchise. With a new horizon dawning, there is no better time to look back on the rich and storied history of the superhero saga.

This newly released trailer acts as a whistle-stop guide through the world-conquering comic book series, which began with 2008's Iron Man and a career-reviving performance from Robert Downey Jr.

Relive the highs and lows experienced throughout the franchise, from the birth of the patriotic Captain America (Chris Evans) to the fracturing of the Avengers initiative in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. All the while we progress towards the inescapable threat of the Mad Titan known as Thanos (Josh Brolin), and his universe-obliterating actions at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

That brings us to Endgame. Who will be the Avenger, or Avengers, to bring down Thanos, how will they do so and, most importantly, what will be the consequences for phase four of the MCU? Of course, the following video gives no answers, but instead loads up on the nostalgic love for the characters.
