Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is so packed full of breathtaking visuals that it's almost akin to an explosion in a paint factory. The visual aesthetic is continually swirling and morphing to match the multiversal madness of the storyline, making the movie a true feast for the senses.
It's the sequel to 2018's Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse and picks up with the ongoing adventures of Brooklyn's Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore). Although he's cemented as the Spider-Man for his particular universe, Miles is then taken inside the multiverse by Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and introduced to the Spider Society, a teeming mass of different characters, some inhuman, others inanimate, and all flying beneath the Spidey banner.
The movie, as with its predecessor, is backed by LEGO Movie whizzkids Phil Lord and Chris Miller who bring their signature freneticism and fast-paced humour to proceedings. (Lord and Miller have produced both movies and also contribute to the screenplays.) The movie is directed by Joachim dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson who have reportedly marshalled the efforts of a truly massive 1,000 animators.
