One woman seeks to leave her traumatic relationship behind in the quietly stirring Irish drama Herself. The movie screens in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members on 24th August and is highly recommended for those seeking a contemplative, character-led drama.
Clare Dunne gives a superb performance as Sandra, a mother of two young children who has turned her back on her abusive partner. However, when she is denied housing by her local council, Clare musters up the courage to build her own abode with the help of supportive friends and family. Check out the trailer below.
Herself is directed by Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd and received critical acclaim when it did the rounds during the 2020 film festival season. Variety's Peter Debruge describes it as: "[A] timely, empowering story about a battered wife who builds her own house, and the decent folks who come to her aid in that endeavour."
