How about a touch of salsa to go with your Cineworld experience? We're delighted to announce that In the Heights is screening in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members on Friday the 11th of June. This is your chance to see Lin-Manuel Miranda's pre-Hamilton success story up there on the big screen, resplendent in warmth, vitality and memorable characters.
In the Heights charts the dreams of bodega owner Usnavi (Hamilton's Anthony Ramos) who dreams of escaping his humdrum life and returning to his roots in the Dominican Republic. The effervescent story, which rides high on the back of Miranda's characteristic rap numbers, threads Usnavi's story together with a host of different individuals from his local Washington Heights community. This includes beauty salon worker, and Usnavi's girlfriend, Vanessa (Melissa Barrera), and his sister Nina (Leslie Grace).
One thing's for sure: there will be dancing. Add to that a dash of hopeful aspiration, thwarted ambition and larger-than-life musical staging – in other words, everything we've come to expect from the creator of Hamilton (who cameos in the movie as piragua seller Mr. Piragüero).
Critics ara already raving about In the Heights. Writes Tim Grierson for Screen International: "A large ensemble of engaging performances holds together this bursting-at-the-seams picture, which never lets its buoyant spirit overshadow the bittersweet exploration of racism and economic inequality going on underneath."
