Spines are ready to be tingled all over again with the imminent release of Insidious: The Red Door. This is the fifth movie in the hugely successful horror franchise and the first to be directed by star Patrick Wilson who has been with the series since the beginning.
Talking of beginnings, it's perhaps easy to forget where the Insidious saga all started. Back in 2011, the first movie was initiated by the Saw team of director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell. It introduced us to the Lambert family who became plagued by demonic spirits that were attached to their comatose son Dalton (Ty Simpkins). Even more terrifyingly, said phantoms were connected to the childhood of father Josh, played by Wilson, and they all originated from the astral plane known as the Further.
Many years later in Insidious 5, Dalton is now grown up and at college, and the family has apparently moved on from the terror. Or have they? It doesn't take long for the Lamberts to realise that the apparitions are not done with them yet, setting in motion another chilling journey beyond the known world.
If you're in need of a refresh, then check out the two videos below that explain the frightening nature of the Further. Are you brave enough to continue?
