New poster for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Last week, we brought your our breakdown of the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer. More specifically, we sought to identify all of the various Spidey characters contained within, and several of those individuals now turn up on the new poster.

Here it is in all its multiversal, vibrantly coloured glory. Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) again anchors proceedings, and his upside-down state may well be a metaphor for how surreal things are about to get...

Story details for Across the Spider-Verse are currently sketchy. In the trailer, Miles' friend Gwen Stacey/Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) takes him back into the multiverse after they defeated Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) in the previous movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Gwen opens Miles' eyes to even more extraordinary corners of the multiverse, ones teeming with all manner of fan-favourite Spider-People. Centrally, Across the Spider-Verse is based on Miles and Gwen, plus new additions Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (Issa Rae).

The directors this time are Joaquim dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson who collaborate with Spider-Verse overlords Phil Lord and Chris Miller (also the guys responsible for the gloriously subversive LEGO movies).

Across the Spider-Verse is rumoured to have six animation styles and certainly, the hellzapoppin, freewheeling ambition of the trailer indicates a multiversal adventure unlike any we've seen before.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is released on June 2nd, 2023 and will be followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024. If you haven't done so already, check out the trailer below.
