Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse unleashes new poster

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse uncorks the largest amount of Spidey characters we've ever seen on the big screen – and the new poster proves it. Here it is in all its primary-coloured glory.

In this sequel to 2018's Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales/Spider-Man (Shameik Moore) is taken into the multiverse by emergent love interest Gwen Stacey/Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld). Far from being the only Spider-Man, Miles discovers that he is but one of a teeming mass of wall-crawlers, including the rage-fuelled Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) who insists that every iteration of Peter Parker follow their sacrificial destiny.

Naturally, Miles questions this grim sense of predeterminism, and pretty soon the entire multiverse is brought to its knees. Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Jake Johnson) returns from the previous movie, and new faces include Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (voiced by Issa Rae). All of the characters cited here can be located on the poster above (it appears Peter is now a father, judging from the baby he's cradling), and there are several other fan-pleasing inclusions as well.

We can also spot Bombastic Bag Man and Werewolf Spider-Man, hailing from 1984’s Amazing Spider-Man #258 and 2007’s Marvel Zombies/Army of Darkness #5, respectively. The Spidey with black and yellow armour is identifiable as Spider-Armor MK II, first introduced in 2011’s Amazing Spider-Man #656. There's also room on the poser for Insomniac's Spider-Man, the main character in the critically acclaimed PlayStation 4 game Marvel's Spider-Man from 2018.

The movie is overseen, as before, by LEGO Movie gurus Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Directors Joachim dos Santos and Kemp Powers take over from the previous movie's trio of Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, Rodney Rothman. Santos is a storyboard artist turned filmmaker who has worked extensively in animation including Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Powers has background as a playwright: in adapting his own play One Night in Miami, Powers attained an Oscar nomination, and he also worked on Disney-Pixar's acclaimed Soul.

How's that for a web of intrigue? No doubt many more Spidey characters will be revealed when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lands on June 2nd.
