Spider-Man: No Way Home releases new poster ahead of new trailer

Spider-Man and Doctor Strange open up the multiverse in the new poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The poster anticipates the next trailer for this critical chapter in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Seeking to reverse the consequences of his identity being leaked, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) asks his ally Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help. However, the ensuing magic spell goes badly wrong, inverting the time-space continuum and allowing for some classic villains to re-enter the fold. Step forward Alfred Molina's Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn/Green Goblin...

There's no sign yet of Jamie Foxx's villainous Electro, although he's set to be an important presence in the movie. We're also on tenterhooks to discover whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men are present in the film, directed by Jon Watts who helmed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei and Jon Favreau all return as MJ, Ned, Aunt May and Happy Hogan, respectively. Holland has told Total Film that No Way Home will be "dark and sad", adding: "What people will be really surprised about is that it's not fun, this film. You're going to see characters that you love go through things that you would never wish for them to go through. And I was just really excited to kind of lean into that side of Peter Parker."

Dark or not, this movie is set to become the first-ever live-action multiverse epic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The idea has already been floated in the (non-MCU-affiliated) Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won an Oscar for its imaginative storyline and dazzling visual approach. (The sequel is coming next year.)

The possibilities of the multiverse mean the MCU can now pinwheel into all manner of alternate realities and set-ups, mixing and matching scenarios and characters at will. Spider-Man: No Way Home is released in Cineworld cinemas on 15th December, so keep your eyes peeled to the blog for our upcoming trailer breakdown.
