The Conjuring 3: go behind the scenes in time for Halloween

The Conjuring 3 is the next instalment in the blockbusting Conjuring Universe franchise, and is due for release in 2021. Director James Wan returns to the horror movie series he initiated with 2013's The Conjuring, a surprise box office hit about a terrifying real-life haunting. And we've now got a behind the scenes look at the spine-tingling threequel.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who have been beset by all manner of spectral terror during the franchise. We've already been introduced to their museum of macabre curiosities, including the notorious haunted doll Annabelle (itself the star of three films). And more frights are on the cards in the third movie, officially titled The Devil Made Me Do It.

If that doesn't promise something ominous, then nothing does. However, the following behind the scenes featurette is promising a tweak to the now-familiar haunted house set-up. At the same time, the video recaps the history of the franchise so far, exploring the relationship between faith and fear, and how a priest was required to exorcise the set of the new film. In other words, perfect Halloween viewing – check it out below.

The official synopsis for The Devil Made Me Do It is as follows: "The Devil Made Me Do It reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense."

Wan reunites with producer Peter Safran while the screenwriter is franchise newcomer David Leslie-Johnson, who worked with Wan on DC Extended Universe movie Aquaman. The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It is scheduled for release (at the time of writing) on 4th June 2021. Let us know @Cineworld if you're planning to watch it.
