The Matrix Resurrections unleashes a new poster

"Woah" may be the appropriate reaction to this eye-grabbing new poster for The Matrix Resurrections. Keanu Reeves' Neo is once again centre stage (don't ask us how), and he's flanked by old flame Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss), plus franchise newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Jessica Henwick.

The last two cast members cited are playing young Morpheus and rebel fighter Bugs, respectively. The poster promises a "return to the source" as director Lana Wachowski reboots the Matrix mythology, apparently reinstating Neo within the notorious computer simulation.

Exactly how Neo and Trinity are alive again remains a tantalising mystery. The culmination of 2003's The Matrix Revolutions made heavy weather of their personal sacrifices, with the former dying to liberate humanity from the tyrannical machines.

We're also wondering how the younger Morpheus fits in. Abdul-Mateen II replaces Laurence Fishburne in the role, and the trailer makes it evident that Morpheus is once again keen to tap into Neo's latent abilities.

Sean Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, Jada Pinkett Smith (returning from the second and third Matrix movies as Niobe), Lambert Smith (ditto), Christina Ricci and Priyanka Chopra Jonas also feature in the movie. The Matrix Resurrections opens our minds from 22nd December.
