Where the Crawdads Sing: watch the new trailer for the Delia Owens adaptation

Delia Owens' novel Where the Crawdads Sing caused a publishing sensation with its reader-friendly mixture of character drama, murderous intrigue and environmental allegory.

It was buoyed by support from A-lister Reese Witherspoon who now serves as an executive producer on the glossy new film adaptation. Normal People sensation Daisy Edgar Jones takes on the pivotal role of Kya, the isolated 'marsh girl' who is the target of recrimination from her local North Carolina community.

Ostracized from society but in tune with the beauty of her surroundings, Kya is later suspected of murder when her ex-lover turns up dead. Did she commit the crime? And how does this reflect on a cruel, unfeeling world that is all-too-keen to cast the first stone?

Written by Beasts of the Southern Wild scribe Lucy Alibar with an excellent supporting cast including Harris Dickinson and David Strathairn, this could well bring Owens' story to an even wider audience.

Check out the latest trailer for Where the Crawdads Sing, which opens in Cineworld cinemas on 26th August.
