Ant-Man: the story so far as we build toward Quantumania

Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania kick-starts Marvel Phase Five in spectacular fashion. Paul Rudd's shrinking superhero Scott Lang/Ant-Man must embark on his most dangerous mission to date, venturing back into the Quantum Realm where time, space and the laws of physics bear no relation to our own.

Whilst he's in there, Scott is confronted by a deadly new enemy who presents him with a proposition, one that could blow apart the parameters of the space-time continuum.

Ant-Man (2015):

• Thief Scott Lang is released from prison

• It's revealed that Scott has an ex-wife and a young daughter named Cassie, and he's looking to provide for them

• Scott breaks into the house of scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who has designed the shrinking Ant-Man suit

 

 

• Hank's wife Janet van Dyne disappeared inside the Quantum Realm many years earlier

• Scott and Hank make a deal: the former will help steal the Ant-Man technology from Pym's former pupil Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll)

• Scott becomes Ant-Man via a training montage that includes training alongside real ants

 

 

• Ant-Man partners with Pym's daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) who ultimately gets her own suit named The Wasp

• Ant-Man destroys Yellowjacket by shrinking the latter's suit to a subatomic size

• Ant-Man threatens to disappear into the Quantum Realm but manages to reverse the effects and return to the normal world

 

 

Captain America: Civil War (2016):

• The Avengers split in two following an argument over the Sokovia Accords that seek to hold the initiative accountable for its destructive actions

• Scott is recruited by Team Cap, led by Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) to fight Team Iron Man, led by Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.)

• Ant-Man's enlarging suit is deployed during the airport battle

 

 

Ant-Man and The Wasp (2018):

• Scott discovers that he now shares a Quantum Realm telepathic link with Hank's wife Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer)

• Scott, Hope and Hank attempt to build a Quantum Tunnel to bring Janet back into the real world

• The team meets Ghost aka Ava (Hannah John-Kamen) who glitches as a result of a Quantum disturbance

 

 

• Ava wants to utilise Janet's Quantum Realm energy to make herself better but Hank refuses

• Scott, Hope and Hank contact Janet who is still located within the Quantum Realm

• Hank brings Janet back from the Quantum Realm

 

 

• Janet utilises her energy to stabilise Ava

• Upon harvesting energy from the Quantum Realm, Scott finds himself stranded during the Snap

 

 

Avengers: Endgame (2019):

• Five years after the Snap, Scott emerges from the Quantum Realm

• Visiting his old neighbourhood, he discovers his daughter Cassie is now a teenager

 

 

• Scott travels to the Avengers compound where he convinces the survivors about the Quantum Realm's existence

• Scott helps the remaining Avengers to utilise time travel and reverse Thanos' (Josh Brolin) success in claiming the Infinity Stones

• Scott travels back to 2012 to help Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) retrieve the Space Stone from Loki (Tom Hiddleston)

• However, 2012-Loki escapes with it

 

 

• After much sacrifice, including Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow's (Scarlett Johansson) death, the Avengers reunite in the present day and place all of the Stones into a new Infinity Gauntlet that will reverse Thanos' actions

• Thanos arrives with his army and battles the Avengers before a newly restored Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) arrives with the rest of the Avengers initiative, plus the armies of Wakanda and Asgard

• Ant-Man and the rest of the Avengers are witnesses to Tony Stark's ultimate sacrifice as he steals the stones and snaps his fingers to destroy Thanos for good

• Scott is seen at Tony's ensuing funeral along with the rest of the Avengers

 

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (2023):

• Scott, Hank, Janet and Cassie (Kathryn Newton) return to the Quantum Realm

• There they discover some deadly new enemies including Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) and MODOK

• Kang tempts Scott with the possibility of restoring all the time he lost during Thanos' snap
