Chadwick Boseman: 5 times he proved that real heroes don't wear capes

As the world comes to terms with the death of Chadwick Boseman, more and more stories are emerging of his inherent graciousness. The Black Panther star tragically passed away at the age of 43, and he translated the heroism of his Marvel portrayal into his real-life interactions with fans.

Boseman clearly understood the responsibility that lay on his shoulders in bringing Black Panther to the big screen. And when the fans took the movie to their hearts, he responded in kind with several moments of humble generosity. Here are just some of them.

1. This moment where he surprised Black Panther fans

This has been doing the rounds online: a clip from Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, in which Boseman personally responds to heartfelt messages of love towards Black Panther.


2. When he gave his MTV award for Best Hero away

During the 2018 MTV Movie Awards, the selfless Boseman gave away his Best Hero award to James Shaw Jr., a man who had confronted a gunman at a Tennessee waffle house. 


3. When he revealed this important Denzel Washington intervention

Boseman explained that the Oscar-winning star of Training Day personally paid for him to take acting lessons at the University of Oxford.

 

4. When he repaid the acknowledgment to Washington

"There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington," Boseman explained at an AFI movie tribute to his benefactor. 

 

5. When he inspired the class of 2018 at Howard University

When returning to his Alma Mater in Washington D.C., Boseman fired up the students with a rousing speech worthy of the finest Marvel blockbuster.
