James Gunn is set to direct DC's new Superman movie

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's an incoming Superman reboot, and new DC creative chief James Gunn has confirmed he'll be directing it.

Following the wholesale reboot of the DC Movie Universe, Gunn will take it upon himself to rework the Man of Steel's origins in Superman: Legacy. Controversially, this won't involve the role's previous incumbent Henry Cavill, but Gunn expressed gushing enthusiasm for Supes' legacy in the following social media post.

There are currently no details as to who will play Superman, his allies or enemies, so stay tuned to the blog for more details. The movie has a release date of July 11th, 2025.

More imminently than that, Gunn will conclude his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film hits us on May 3rd.
