In the Heart of the Sea

What's the story? Chris Hemsworth stars in the astonishing true story of the 19th century mariners who faced the might of an enraged whale.

In August 1819, 21 men set out on an ill-fated expedition aboard the New England whaling ship, Essex. They soon encounter a terrifying gargantuan whale, hell-bent on vengeance.

As recounted 30 years on by survivor Tom Nickerson (Brendan Gleeson) to the author Herman Melville (Ben Whishaw), their incredible experience inspires the literary classic 'Moby Dick'. But the book tells only half the story.

Facing imminent starvation and everything the elements can throw at them, the remaining crew start to question their morality as they do the unthinkable just to stay alive. Meanwhile, Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth), veteran first mate of inexperienced Captain George Pollard (Benjamin Walker), remains determined to bring down their giant tormentor.

Adapted from Nathaniel Philbrick's bestseller, this epic, exhilarating survival drama reunites Oscar-winning director Ron Howard with his Rush star Chris Hemsworth.

What's the story? Angelina Jolie directs herself and husband Brad Pitt in this intense relationship drama.

In picturesque, 1970s seaside France, married couple Roland (Brad Pitt) and his wife Vanessa (Angelina Jolie) arrive to soak up the sea and sand. However, it soon becomes clear their marriage is in a desperate crisis and the couple realise they must confront the situation head on.

An engrossing story of marriage that gains added emotional impact from the presence of Hollywood's premier power couple both in front of and behind the camera, this is an intimate, honest and raw look at the nature of relationships.

In addition to her lead role, Angelina Jolie Pitt also steps back behind the camera following her epic World War II drama Unbroken. Meanwhile, her megastar husband Brad Pitt is set to build on his recent run of impressive character turns in the likes of The Tree of Life.

By the Sea is released on 11th December.
