Teaser poster revealed for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Is your aim true? Is your heart pure? It had better be because we've got the first teaser poster for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It teases an appropriately gilded and decadent prequel to the blockbusting young adult franchise, one that throws us back to the origins of the dreaded President Snow. Check it out here.

Given that this is a prequel, we won't be seeing Jennifer Lawrence's arrow-firing Katniss Everdeen. Instead, we're presented with the younger Coriolanus Snow as played by actor Tom Blyth (Benediction). As before, the movie is adapted from an existing property by author Suzanne Collins and it will be directed by Francis Lawrence who now makes his fifth movie in the franchise.

Deadline has unveiled the synopsis for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It's as follows: "Years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol.

"With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor.

"Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake."

Blyth is joined by West Side Story star Rachel Zegler who plays Lucy Gray Baird. Oscar-winner Viola Davis will be playing ruthless head game maker Dr. Volumnia Gaul (we love that name). She's described by director Francis Lawrence as "creative...fearsome... and formidable."

She'll be joined by Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom: Dean of the Academy and co-creator of the Hunger Games.

How will the history of President Snow play out on the big screen? We'll know for sure when The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes arrives on November 17th.
