Tenet: 5 reasons to book your tickets right now

We're thrilled to announce that tickets are now on sale for Christopher Nolan's new movie Tenet.

At the time of writing, Nolan's latest mega-budget epic is still shrouded in mystery. But would we have it any other way? Not so much time-travel as a 'time-inversion' movie, it sends a pair of secret agents on a globe-trotting journey to prevent a diabolical threat.

Painted on an epic scale with a huge budget to match ($205 million), it's little wonder that Nolan has described Tenet as his "most ambitious" movie so far. Even so, coming from the director of Inception, that's reason enough to get excited.

1. It's the summer movie we've all been waiting for

And we really mean that. When we were forced to close our doors in March 2020, it was a bleak time. And Tenet was the light at the end of the tunnel. But getting there proved challenging, with the release date moved from 17th July to 31st July, to the 12th August and, finally, 26th August.

Nolan has pinned everything on this mega-budget opus being the redeemer of the summer 2020 season. And it's now in sight, ready to blow away the cobwebs and immerse you in a big-budget world of espionage.

2. It's the latest project from Christopher Nolan

Here's a filmmaker who needs little introduction. Nolan has repeatedly straddled that seemingly impossible divide between critical acclaim and box office gold, which stretches way back to his non-linear masterpiece Memento in 2000. In the years since, he tweaked Robin Williams' screen persona in Insomnia, reshaped Batman with his blockbusting Dark Knight trilogy and constructed psychological architecture with Inception. Let's not forget warring magicians thriller The Prestige, space odyssey Interstellar or relentless World War II thriller Dunkirk, either.

More than just a director, Nolan is a brand, one of the few helmers who can sell a movie on his name alone. For that reason, you don't want to pass up the chance to see his latest movie.

3. It's got an all-star cast

BlacKkKlansman's John David Washington leads a diverse ensemble of exciting faces. He's joined by The Lighthouse's Robert Pattinson (we can forget about Twilight now, right?) and Nolan's familiar good luck charm Michael Caine.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Branagh reunites with Nolan in the wake of Dunkirk, while Widows' Elizabeth Debicki is also onboard. Chalk up Bollywood star Dimple Kapadia, Yesterday's Himesh Patel, Kick-Ass's Aaron Taylor-Johnson and In Bruges' Clemence Poesy and you have a formidably talented cast who are bound to keep you riveted throughout.

4. It showcases breathtaking IMAX visuals

Ever since 2008's The Dark Knight, Nolan has filmed with IMAX cameras. In that movie, only a couple of sequences were filmed in the format. Fast-forward to Dunkirk, where an astonishing 75% was captured in IMAX by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema.

Tenet is similarly ambitious in its IMAX-lensed scope, with a multitude of global locations playing host to a raft of set-pieces. From a car chase in Estonia to a plane crashing into a building (yes, the plane was real), it's a testament to Nolan's love for the IMAX format. After months spent watching movies in our front room, here comes the immersively impressive screen size and enveloping surround sound to remind you of what you've been missing.

5. It promises to release you from the horror that is 2020

Movies are a one-way ticket to escapist fantasy, and Nolan has repeatedly indulged in extraordinary worlds that lift us out of reality. Back in 2010, Nolan visualised the inner-mind as an astonishing playground of physics-defying mayhem. This year with Tenet, he inverts the standard holocaust thriller with backwards-propelling set-pieces and weird 'time-inversion' paranoia that is bound to fire the imagination. And goodness knows, we need that in 2020.
