The Little Mermaid character posters wash in on a wave of Disney nostalgia

Cineworld tickets for Disney's remake of The Little Mermaid are now on sale. And the movie is stepping up the hype campaign with a raft of new character posters. Scroll through the gallery below for fresh glimpses of Halle Bailey's Ariel, Melissa McCarthy's Ursula, Javier Bardem's King Triton, Jonah Hauer-King's Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs' Sebastian, Awkwafina's Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay's Flounder.

Directed by Rob Marshall, helmer of Disney's 2018 sequel Mary Poppins Returns, The Little Mermaid offers a lavish re-staging of the 1989 animated masterpiece. The original movie is credited with reviving Disney's fortunes and setting in motion the Disney Renaissance period that encompassed further masterpieces including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Aladdin, all of which have been treated to their own remakes.

Alan Menken, the composer of the soundtrack for the original The Little Mermaid, has been brought back in, acting as a vital link to both the Disney heritage and our heartstrings. Menken's 1989 score won an Oscar, as did the song 'Under the Sea' that Menken composed with the late lyricist Howard Ashman.

Four new songs have been composed for the movie by almost-EGOT and Disney favourite Lin-Manuel Miranda, including a new Ariel solo number 'For the First Time'. Will he be holding a statuette aloft at the beginning of next year? We can only hope.

The Little Mermaid is released on May 26th. Click the link below to book your tickets.
