Watch families react to the Matilda the Musical trailer

Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical bounds onto the big screen this November, bringing a toe-tapping sense of theatrical energy to the classic children's story.

It's set to be one of the biggest family events of the winter season, bringing Tim Minchin's acclaimed, showstopping songs (including the now-classic 'When I Grow Up') to a brand new audience.

Screen newcomer Alisha Weir plays the bookish Matilda Wormwood, who loves her reading as much as she loathes the grotesque adults in her life, be they Emma Thompson's fearsome headmistress Miss Trunchbull or her foolish parents (played by Andrea Riseborough and Stephen Graham).

Luckily, Matilda finds an ally in the form of the angelic teacher Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), with whom she shares her telekinetic powers and thirst for learning.

It's big, it's bold and it's adapted from the blockbusting stage smash that wowed the crowds in both the West End and Broadway. We wanted to know what families made of the Matilda trailer, so ahead of the movie's release, we played it to a select crowd.

Check out the following video to see the delighted reactions from kids and adults alike. Surely, even Roald Dahl himself would have been proud.

Like the look of that? The good news is you can now book your Cineworld tickets for Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, releasing on November 25.

Don't forget that with the Cineworld Family Ticket, adults pay kids' prices (valid for groups of four people with up to two paying adults), allowing you to be more childish together as you marvel at the Matilda experience.

If you need another reminder of the fun and energy on display in the trailer, we've got it right here.
