Watch the full trailer for The Exorcist: Believer

There's no sympathy for the devil in the first full trailer for The Exorcist: Believer. The team behind the recent series of Halloween reboots (producer Jason Blum; director David Gordon Green) now materialise a fresh sequel to one of the most (in)famous horror movies of all time.

The original Exorcist, released in 1973, was helmed by the recently deceased William Friedkin and adapted by William Peter Blatty from his book of the same name. The movie's heady blend of theological discourse and full-on visceral body horror changed the game for the genre, inviting blockbuster returns, multiple Oscar nominations and no end of outraged discourse as to the film's explicit content.

There have been several sequels since the original, very few of which are worth a damn. Fingers crossed that Blum, working through his Blumhouse label, and Gordon Green can find substance in their story of a brand new possession that this time takes hold of two young innocent girls simultaneously.

Fortunately, the victims' families can call on the experience of Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) whose daughter Regan was the unwitting Satanic host in the original movie. Watch the new trailer for The Exorcist: Believer below.

As you can see, the strong cast includes Hamilton's Leslie Odom Jr. and Hereditary's Ann Dowd. With its guttural demonic voices, upturned crucifixes and portentous warnings of souls in peril, we can hope that The Exorcist: Believer will bring the chills in time for Halloween. The movie is unleashed on October 6th.
