Enter Atlantis with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in IMAX

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is the last instalment in the current iteration of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) before it's rebooted by James Gunn. It reunites us with Jason Momoa's newly crowned king of the deep Aquaman, human alias Arthur Curry, who this time is pulled into a deadly battle to protect his beloved kingdom.

As befits one of December's biggest movie releases, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is being brought to you in the majesty of IMAX. In fact, the movie was shot specifically for the format. Scroll down for more information as to how the filmmakers did it and why IMAX is set to transform your Aquaman experience.

What is IMAX and how does it work?

IMAX deploys visual scope and sonic dynamism for a remarkable and immersive cinematic experience.  IMAX combines specific high-resolution cameras with state-of-the-art projectors and a uniquely optimised auditorium to engulf you in the world of the biggest new releases.

The IMAX remastering process helps ensure every frame glistens with added levels of contrast and sharpness. This lends greater veracity and depth to every scene. Projection therefore feels crystal clear and unlike anything seen in a standard widescreen presentation. IMAX fully transforms every frame of a film to produce the best possible version of a filmmaker’s vision.

IMAX auditoriums are also equipped with a perfectly tuned integrated sound and speaker system for heart-pounding audio that will truly blow you away. Speakers are placed in specific areas around the auditorium to deliver unparalleled preciseness that enhances the level of immersion.

How was Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom filmed for IMAX?

As part of the Filmed for IMAX program, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was shot with IMAX-certified digital cameras and features IMAX-exclusive Expanded Aspect Ratio (EAR).

Director James Wan’s use of IMAX-certified cameras promises to immerse audiences in the realm of Atlantis, especially when experienced in either the 1.90:1 or 1:78 EAR.

The 1.90:1 aspect ratio provides up to 26% more picture – only in IMAX.  Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to fill the entire screen, allowing moviegoers to experience more of the images with unprecedented detail and clarity.
