Is the new Lin-Manuel Miranda musical In the Heights a salsa-shaking hit? Or a watered-down piragua? We asked Cineworld Unlimited members for their verdict on the movie, given that they got to see it in advance on the 11th of June
Miranda adapts his pre-Hamilton Broadway success, the story of a group of people living in the Washington Heights district of Manhattan. The story is centrally held together by the aspirational Usnavi (Anthony Ramos) who dreams of starting a new life in the place of his ancestors, the Dominican Republic.
The movie cranks up the feel-good as we traverse the hopes and dreams of Usnavi, his family and friends. Here's what Unlimited members thought of the movie.
Nothing short of amazing. I have never seen the original show, but it didn’t take long for this to hook me. It’s a love letter to communties and the relationships we make, all interwoven into a pure escapist fantasy.

Had the vibe and storytelling style of the classic musicals of the 50's and 60's, and the exuberance of the group numbers has left me in a great mood, the cinema setting a wonderful assault on the senses. If you like musicals, I highly recommend! 🙂

I have to say I am none the wiser regarding the plot line (was there one?!) but enjoyed the singing and dancing so stuck with it. Not really my cup of tea, I prefer something with a meatier story - The Father is great - and I'm not a big fan of musicals. Just MO #InTheHeightsMovi

Was a bit long and could have been a bit shorter and story telling could of been a bit better. It felt like the songs did not get time to breath and too much can be a bad thing and it did not have as much of an impact.

Whilst the interspersed song and dance numbers were amazing, the film dragged on for its almost 2.5 hours length. I felt it could of, should of, done better storytelling. #InTheHeightsMovie #CineworldUnlimited #UnlimitedScreening ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (lost a star for being too long!)
